Pro Hall of Famer and new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Mike Singletary aka Samurai Mike once said " Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play."
This took me back to the pop warner days where I of course did not play football but cheered from the sidelines. I remember the moment I fell in love with football. I was about 9 years old and his name was Brandon... he had a flat top with the a dialogue line down the side and boy could he play(flag football that is)! Ever since then, I had this thing for the game and the guys who played it.
Football was a lifestyle, a swagger all its own. It was the hopes of all the young boys; tall and short, fat and skinny, rich and poor...talent came from all backgrounds. It wasn't the steriods, alcohol, groupies, baby mamas, sex, poppin bottles, bentleys, cribs and condos you see today in the league. It was the opportunity to play...where kids of all races, shapes, sizes and backgrounds could come together for a few hours for a common interest...football.
Now its been almost 15 years since I first fell in love with football...but the game and the boys have completely changed. I don't know what ever happened to Brandon nor does it really matter...he was just a symbol of what was and no longer is. I've been around football players my whole life from brothers to friends to guys i've dated. Some played in high school, fewer get the chance to play in college and well even less make it to the league. Someone once said men that make it to the NFL are not winners only survivors...
So this brings me to this very moment....I chose to start this blog to show another side of the game....forget the stats, forget the score....this blog is mainly focused on the stories and lifestyles of players outside of what you may see during the GAME!
